Lehigh University Bookstore Supports South Side Summer Reading Program

The Lehigh University Bookstore has collaborated with the Bethlehem Public Library Summer Reading Program, offering a discount to its children and teen participants.

In support of the Bethlehem Area Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, the Lehigh University Bookstore is providing over two hundred coupons that will be handed out to program participants.

The Summer Reading Program encourages young children and teens to read throughout the months of June, July, and August by providing free weekly programming and prizes for successful completion of different numbers books according to age group. Last summer 225 young people from Bethlehem’s South side participated, reading a total of 2856 books.

This is the second year Steve Schatten, manager of the bookstore, has been contacted by the public reading program’s organizers asking to donate an incentive or prize for program participants. Last year, the bookstore donated a gift card.

This year, Schatten hoped to encourage local families to visit the bookstore. “People don’t realize that we’re actually a Barnes and Noble. We have all types of books in stock, and can special order items that are available online. For this reason, participants this summer will get a coupon they can put towards a purchase at the Bookstore.

The Lehigh University Bookstore carries a broad assortment of best sellers, trade books, apparel, high-end gifts, and convenience items. Metered parking is available in the adjacent Campus Square parking garage.
