Alpha Phi Omega (APO)

Alpha Phi Omega is a national co-ed community service fraternity with chapters in over 300 American universities and many chapters in other parts of the world.  We are the nation's largest intercollegiate fraternity.  We participate in service projects on and off campus and have regular brotherhood social events as well.  Membership is non-exclusive, and members can still join a fraternity/sorority. Minimum requirements for active membership are 10 hours of community service per semester, attendance to at least one social event, a short brotherhood meeting every 2 weeks, national dues of $25 per semester, and the completion of our pledge program.

Alpha Pi Mu

The honorary Industrial Engineering Society gives recognition to qualified Industrial Engineering students, fosters high professional standards in the field, and assists the industrial engineering department in its preparation of innovations in the field.  Membership is open to outstanding juniors and seniors.  Meetings are held as needed.  Initiation fee is $50.

American Chemical Society

This society encourages student interest in Chemistry and the related sciences. The student affiliates meet from time to time to learn about departmental affairs, course changes, and coming events. The affiliates co-sponsor speakers with the Chemistry Department, run the basic seminar series, and participate in formulating and reviewing the chemistry curriculum. The society also sponsors a holiday season banquet and spring picnic. Membership is open to all students registered in Chemistry, Biochemistry or Chemical Engineering.

American Medical Women’s Association

The purpose of the American Medical Women’s Association is to expose female pre-medical students to the role of women in healthcare professions through shadowing, community service, assemblies, and speakers. Although this organization is geared toward women, any individual of any gender has the right to join and learn with us.

American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)

This student branch of the national society encourages the development of a professional consciousness and affords an opportunity for Civil Engineering students to become acquainted.  Membership is open to any student enrolled in Civil Engineering.  Meetings are held monthly along with regular social functions.  Guest speakers include practicing Civil Engineers.

Amnesty International is a global organization that seeks to help/free prisoners of concience across the world. We stand up for basic human rights of all people regardless of their race or gender.

Anime Eki Animation

The main purpose of the Anime Eki shall be to promote awareness and appreciation of Japanese animation and Japanese comic books. The Club’s goal is also to make others recognize Japanese animation and comic books as an art form. In addition this organization shall be responsible for teaching members about Japanese culture through this form of entertainment.

Association of Computing Machinery (ACM)

The ACM is a group of people interested in sharing knowledge while exploring and learning about computers.  The group explores all areas of computers from the simplest hardware to the most complicated software. Members are encouraged to actively participate through regular meetings that provide a forum for members and non-members alike to present their own projects, knowledge and expertise to the club.

Association of International Students

The main purpose of AIS is to create a stronger bond between international students at Lehigh.  AIS will also serve as a center for all undergrad international students; a center to meet, discuss, debate, and socialize with fellow international and internationally aware students.  AIS will raise awareness of different countries, ideas, events, and have speakers applying to this.  We are here to enrich the Lehigh student body and add a different perspective of the world through the eyes of international students.

Best Buddies

The mission of Best Buddies is to provide an opportunity for college students and persons with mild to moderate mental retardation to become friends.  Since contact between college students and persons who are mentally disable seldom happen spontaneously, Best Buddies facilitates social contact by organizing group outings and requiring ongoing one-to-one activities for College Buddies and Buddies.  Best Buddies seeks to contribute positively to the social and psychological development of all involved and to the community at large.  Students increase their understanding of themselves and learn more about living together in a large and diverse community.  For persons with mental disabilities, Best Buddies affords the opportunity to make new friends, go new places, and meet people who are outside of their often limited social settings.  Best Buddies is a multi-purpose program; however, the key element is friendship and commitment to that friendship.

LU Bhangra team is a talented pool of men and women who have a love for tradition.  The energy and spirit of Punjab is articulated through every graceful movement.  LU Bhangra dancers are perpetual students of bhangra who dance to respect colorful Punjab.  While preserving tradition, LU Bhangra serves to innovate and integrate bhangra into the contemporary culture of Lehigh University.  LU Bhangra is open to every student at Lehigh.

Chi Epsilon is the national honor society for those working towards a B.S. in Civil and Environmental engineering.  Membership is based upon scholastic achievement.  Students must be in the upper 1/3 of his/her class to become a member.  Our primary objective is to recognize civil engineers who uphold a high academic record and promote a sense of community among the civil and environmental engineering student body.  We host different social events and guest speakers throughout the year and are also involved with community service.

Cycling

The Cycling Club’s purpose is to promote the sport of cycling on campus, by organizing rides for all levels of cyclists, and participating in the NCAA and ECCC mountain and road racing events.  The Cycling Club is inclusive, with low dues and many benefits, such as discounts at Saucon Valley bikes, access to multiple team sponsorships, and use of a team storage area with complete tool setup.  The Cycling Club raises funds in order to subsidize our race team, and provide equipment for its members.  The club maintains a mountain bike trail system on Lehigh’s South Mountain, and promotes its use to Lehigh students.  The Cycling Club holds an annual road criterium at the Mountain Top campus in the spring and a full weekend of mountain bike racing on Lehigh’s South Mountain each Fall.

Dance Team

The Lehigh Dance Team is in the middle of its second year as a student run team. With no coach, the executive board, as well as the rest of the members of the team, largely contribute to our success.  Practicing multiple days per week, as well as performing at Lehigh’s basketball games and other events, the Dance Team has become an integral part of the student spirit sector of Lehigh University.

Dancin’

The Dance Club at Lehigh, Dancin’, holds weekly classes in jazz, tap, ballet,and hip hop.  Different levels of dance classes (beginner, intermediate, and advanced) are held based on the demand of each.  Teachers from outside studios, as well as students in the club, choreograph and teach dances that are performed  in a recital at the end of the year.   For more information e-mail the club at indan@lehigh.edu

The LU Dental Society is open to any students thinking of pursuing a career in the dentistry. Throughout the year we participate in a number of different activities including dental hygiene presentations at nearby elementary schools and dental-related community events such as Give a Kid a Smile Day. Guest speakers frequently come to meetings to talk about their professional experiences as well as the profession itself.

Echoes

Echoes is Lehigh's only female a cappella group, established in 2003 by two students. There is an overwhelming interest for this club, currently composed of 13 women. There have had between 300-400 students in attendance at their Bake Hall performances, as well as many more positive turn-outs at other concerts. The Echoes tour during Pacing Break each year, as well as to other colleges throughout the Northeast. This spring the Echoes will compete at the intercollegiate level, as well as hold multiple concerts around Lehigh.

Engineers Without Borders

Engineers Without Borders is a multidisciplinary group of students dedicated to learning about and tackling issues of global poverty, international development, and sustainability.  Our mission is both to educate a new generation of students about global inequalities through on-campus speakers and workshops, as well as to use that knowledge to design workable solutions to real life problems.  We are also a non-profit humanitarian organization established to partner with developing communities worldwide in order to improve their quality of life.  This partnership involves the implementation of sustainable engineering systems that developing communities can own and operate without external assistance, thereby empowering such communities by enhancing local, technical, managerial, and entrepreneurial skills.  These projects are initiated by, and completed with, contributions from the host community working with our project team.  Our current project is in conjunction with the Lehigh in Honduras study abroad program.  We plan to design, fund, and implement a small scale water treatment project in Pueblo Nuevo, a village of approximately 1,500 people in northwestern Honduras.  The project and our focus of study cover a wide range of issues, which calls for a wide range of skills and student backgrounds.  We are looking for students from every college. Equestrian

The Equestrian Club is a group of Lehigh students who are interested in horses and horseback riding. It consists of members at many different stages of riding ability, beginners to advance. Members have the opportunity to represent Lehigh at intercollegiate horse shows, but are not required to participate in those shows. The club plans field trips to places like National horse shows and fundraisers such as trail rides. Equestrian Club members train with Marisa Kalmar at Cornerstone Farm.

Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA)

Lehigh’s chapter of FCA encourages Lehigh’s athletes, Christian or otherwise,  to explore their relationship with Jesus Christ and their relationships with their teammates and peers.  Christian coaches are involved to help and challenge the members.  The group holds roundtable discussions and encourages each other to live out their faith in their daily lives.  Discussions usually involve both large and small groups, and last about an hour.  The group brings in outside discussion leaders, including other Christian leaders on campus and athletes from outside of the university . Fencing

The Lehigh University Fencing Club is the only current fencing club at the school.  We are a co-ed club sport that is for the experienced, as well as the inexperienced fencer.  If you are interested in fencing, or are looking for a unique fitness opportunity we are the club to join.  We compete in a number of tournaments a year and fence all three weapons: foil, epee, and sabre.

The French Club is an organization designed to promote knowledge of France and knowledge of the French language and culture. Many activities are held such as trips to New York and Philadelphia as well as French food cooking nights. It is an excellent club to practice your French speaking skills at weekly meetings. The club also participates in the International Bazaar.

Frisbee (Men’s Ultimate)

Ultimate is a non-contact sport that requires agility, speed and quick thinking.  Ultimate is a combination of soccer, football, and basketball in a fast paced game played with a frisbee.  Lehigh Ultimate is a competitive, inter-collegiate activity that involves practice, tournaments, and camraderie.  We play on Maginnes Lawn from 4-6 pm weekdays; stop by and check us out.  All skill levels welcome, we will gladly help and teach this amazing sport to all interested.

HUBS is a student organization aimed at providing students in the Lehigh University community opportunities to advance their careers, especially in the field of business. The organization also strives to participate in the community surrounding Lehigh and also partnering with other school organizations in their endeavors.

Ice Hockey “A”

This club provides a high level of competition for those who wish to participate on a collegiate hockey level.  We compete against the teams in the Eastern Collegiate Hockey Association.  Our schedule consists of 20 to 25 games, half of which is played at our home rink, Steel Ice Center.  Practices are held four times per week and players must provide their own equipment.

Ice Hockey “B”

The purpose of the Ice Hockey “B” Team is to play competitive hockey against other colleges and universities in the Lehigh Valley.  We play about 14 games a year and have 4-6 practices a semester.The main focus of the team is to have fun playing hockey.  The “B” team was formed to allow those students who don’t have time or the money for the “A” team a chance to still play.

The Institute of Industrial Engineering is an affiliate of the National Professional Society for Industrial Engineers.  It is open to students in the Industrial Engineering curriculum or those interested in this field.  Activities include monthly meetings with speakers from industry, field trips, regional and national faculty-student picnic.  Membership fee is $30 and includes a subscription to the Industrial Engineering magazine.

Intervarsity Christian Fellowship

This interdenominational group of students is a chapter of the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship of the United States. Purposes are as follows: to deepen and strengthen the spiritual life of group members by study of the Bible, by prayer, and by Christian fellowship; to lead others to personal faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord; and to help students and faculty discover a role in world evangelism. Activities include weekly, student-led Bible study groups, prayer meetings, and large group fellowship meetings, which often feature outside speakers.

Investment Management Group

While managing the ‘Rights Portfolio’ (worth approximately $105,000), Lehigh University Investment Management Group members get first-hand exposure to a real trading environment.  IMG always welcomes new members and tries to provide students who have an enthusiastic interest in financial markets with a professional platform that advances their exposure to the financial services industry.  A trip to the exchanges in New York is planned once a semester and club members are encouraged to attend to see the financial serives industry first hand.  Also, guest speakers frequent meetings.

Lehigh University Emergency Medical Services (LUEMS)

Lehigh University Emergency Medical Services provides emergency medical care to all students, staff, faculty, and visitors in the Lehigh University community.  We provide services 24 hours a day, seven days a week while school is in session.  We welcome members that are currently certified as EMTs in all states, and will help them obtain the necessary Pennsylvania certifications.  We also welcome those that do not hold certifications as an EMT, however, would like to become one.  As a recognized Pennsylvana Quick Response Service, Lehigh EMS operates under the guidelines and protocols outlined by the State of Pennsylvania Department of Public Health.  We work in conjunction with the University Police to provide the best possible service to the Lehigh community.

National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE)

The National Society of Black Engineers sets out to increase the number of culturally responsible black engineers to excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community. NSBE is the largest student-run organization in the country with over 18,000 members. Meetings are held twice a month to inform members of various events and activities NSBE will be participating. We hold professional and academic workshops as well as corporate information sessions to help our members succeed academically and professionally. We also hold an annual Fashion Show which has become a staple event not only for NSBE but for Lehigh University as well. The Lehigh University chapter attends the national convention every giving students a chance to advance their careers and become active members in the community.

We are THE outdoors club of Lehigh University.  Our activities include rock climbing, hiking, camping, backpacking, skiing, whitewater, and more.  Nearly every weekend the club runs trips for its members.  We send out emails to all our members with info about trips and anyone interested may come along.  Often times no experience is necessary to join a trip.  Just willingness to learn and try new and exciting things.

Soccer (Men)

The Soccer Club consists of roughly 30 members.  The top 20 most committed each week are selected to play each weekend against other colleges’ club soccer teams. We play other colleges that are within a 3 hour radius of Lehigh. We play about 12 games in the fall including playing in the Regional Tournament, and then we play about 6 games and occasionally enter a tournament in the Spring. During the winter, we practice indoors. Dues may be required depending on the funding from the school.

Started in Spring 2003, Spectrum is Lehigh University's student organization dedicated to providing support, social opportunities, educational outreach, and social change for those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning—as well as all those who are allies of the community. Social programs that Spectrum has sponsored include a dance party, movie nights, and trips to New York City and Philly for “gay nights out!”

Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honor society, was founded at Lehigh in 1885 by Edward Higgnson Williams, Jr., to mark in a fitting manner those who have conferred honor upon their Alma Mater by distinguished scholarship and exemplary character in engineering, or by their attainments as alumni in the field of engineering, and to foster a spirit of liberal culture in engineering colleges.  Tau Beta Pi provides professional development to it’s members and is active in community service in the Lehigh community and the greater Bethlehem community.  New members are initiated every semester.  To be eligible, a candidate must be in the top eighth of his/her junior class or top fifth of his/her senior class and demonstrate a spirit of liberal culture in engineering.

WLVR-FM Radio 91.3

WLVR-FM is Lehigh’s student-operated campus radio station.  Students can receive training in broadcasting and even host their own weekly shows.  WLVR’s format ranges from wide variety of music including punk, alternative, rock, rap and indie to talk and educational broadcasts. Students have the opportunity to get involved with any aspect of radio: DJ, business, music department, engineering, etc.

World Affairs

Membership in the club is open to all Lehigh students interested in expanding their understanding of world politics, global issues, and foreign cultures. The club arranges lectures, films, interviews and field trips with international and foreign policy dimensions. World Affairs Club works closely with the International Relations Department and also produces a publication.

Wrestling

Club wrestling is open to anyone from the beginning wrestler to those who were serious in High School.  The club meets 2-3 time a week during the winter and compete against local Clubs and a few Div II schools. Our goal is to continue having fun and enjoying the sport of wrestling.
