How to Start a Club or Organization

Student Senate, Club Affairs Committee

Dear Club Officer and Founding Members,

The writing of a constitution for your club is a process that requires much time and effort. To assist you in this process, I have enclosed in this packet the following information: a model constitution and a copy of the Student Senate By-Laws. The By-Laws contain pertinent information regarding the recognition of clubs on campus. These tools will be of great help to you when drafting your constitution.

The Club Affairs Committee may not recognize a club for any of the following reasons: if the club violates Lehigh University policies, if it is not open to all students on campus, or if there is already a club on campus that encompasses the purpose of the inquiring club. It is mandatory that you have an advisor to your club. Also remember that the president and treasurer must be undergraduate students. Please review your constitution prior to submission to make sure all of the passages do not contain any typographical errors.

Please submit your completed packet, including the Club Recognition Form, the Club Petition and the Constitution to Matthew Kitchie, Director of Student Activities. His office is located in the Ulrich Student Center, room 415. Also make sure you submit a letter of intent by your advisor. Your club may not be considered until all portions of the application are submitted. If you have any questions concerning this process, do not hesitate to contact Matthew at 8-6670 or myself.

Sincerely,

Joslyn Joseph
Club Affairs Committee Chair
