S.T.A.R. is an acronym for "Students
That Are Ready." It was created at Lehigh University
in the spring of 1989 with the formal program implemented
in the fall semester of the same year. This initiative is
a university-school-business-parent partnership program.It
was designed to enrich, enhance, and track the academic
performances of economically and academically disadvantaged
at-risk students in middle and high schools from the Lehigh
Valley.
The regular S.T.A.R. Academy currently has two major programs:
an academic year program for students in grades 6 through
12 as well as a three-week summer mathematics, science and
engineering program for students entering 6th through 9th
grades. The fundamental mission of the Academy is to help
students develop intellectually, socially, spiritually,
and emotionally so that they will become productive citizens
in our society.
