Course Descriptions

EDUC 403. Research:  Basic principles of research; techniques of gathering and analyzing data; design of studies in education. Emphasis on critical reviews of research reports representing various methodologies. Research report required.

 

EDUC 408. Introduction to Statistics:  Organization and description of data. Principles of statistical inference including hypothesis testing, interval estimation, and inferential error control. Emphasis on application.

 

EDUC 471 (CPSY 471). Diversity and Multicultural Perspectives:  Examination of the influence of culture, gender, and disabilities on behavior and attitudes. Historical and current perspectives on race, culture, gender, and minority group issues in education and psychology. Lecture/small group discussion. Course is restricted to graduate students in the College of Education only.  Taught on campus and in Sligo, Ireland.  To register for the section taught in Ireland, contact the Office of International Programs via e-mail at intlcoe@lehigh.edu.

 

EDUC 486. Doctoral Qualifying Research Project:  Design and implement research project under faculty supervision to meet requirements for doctoral programs. May be repeated for credit.

 

EDUC 491. Advanced Seminars: Behavioral Neuroscience: Theoretical and empirical issues in selected topics in biopsychology.

 

EDUC 491. Advanced Seminars: Psychopharmacology:  Basic principles of drug effects in the central nervous system, including their mechanism of action. These will be considered using various psychopathologies and conditions as well as drugs of abuse as examples. Prerequisite: At least one course in neuroscience or physiological psychology or consent of the instructor.

EDUC 493.  Internship in (subtitle): Opportunity for students to apply theory to practice in a variety of educational settings. Students will be supervised in the field and participate in seminars dedicated to addressing specific concerns and issues encountered during
their experience. Prerequisite: consent of the program director.

EDUC 494.  Field Work in (subtitle):  Identification of significant problems in an educational environment, review of the literature, and development of appropriate research plans.

EDUC 495.  Independent Study in (subtitle):   Individual or small group study in the field of specialization.
Approved and supervised by the major adviser. May be repeated.
