Travel & Study Abroad Programs

Each summer, Lehigh offers a number of special travel/study programs in a variety of locations in North America, Central America, Europe, and Asia.  All courses in such programs are Lehigh courses, led and taught by Lehigh faculty (except where noted),and carrying Lehigh credits.

Lehigh in Rome and Florence (June 3-June 30, 2008)

Professors: Ann Priester (Art History) and Lucy Gans (Art)

Courses Offered:        Art 95: Introduction to the History of Art in Italy

                                 Art 96: Italian Sketchbook

                                 Art 169: Special Topics in Italian Art History

Program Description: Through this program, students have the opportunity to be exposed to Italy’s history and culture over the four-week time period.  The students will take courses in Italian art history and will be able to express themselves visually through sketching.

 

Lehigh in Prague (May 14-June 14, 2008)

                                                        CSB 311: Computer Applications in Business

                                                        ECO 209: Comparative Economic Systems

Program Description: Some students will have the opportunity to work in an internship supervised by Professor Hall and Professor King.  Other students have the ability to take two courses for a total of six credits while staying in a vibrant city full of culture and history.

Lehigh in Dortmund (May 19-July 31, 2008)

                                               Short course in: German politics, culture and society

Program Description: Students can not only take Engineering and Applied Science classes but have the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the German language and culture.  Following the program’s end, students may opt to conduct a two week scientific experiment of their chosen discipline.

 

 Lehigh in Paris (June 30-July 30, 2008)

              Professors: Ivan Zaknic (Art and Architecture)

              Courses Offered:        ARCH 253: Paris, The planning of a Metropolis

                                               ARCH 254: Modern Architecture in France: New Directions

 

Program Description: This program is specifically designed to give students the ultimate experience and allows them to take full advantage of France given the program’s location.  Students will be able to study Paris’ urban form and its development throughout the century in addition to the city’s more modern architecture.

 

Lehigh in Turkey (May 15-June 15, 2008)

              Professors: Robert Rozehnal (Religion Studies)

              Courses Offered:        Various lectures given, time given for research

Program Description: This program is designed to give students an opportunity to fully explore the religion, culture, history as well as politics of Turkey.  Students will take tours of various mosques, churches, shrines and libraries among the lectures and workshops they will also attend.

 

Lehigh in Shanghai (May 17-June 28, 2008)

Professors: Constance Cook (Asian Studies), David Myers (Financial Services Lab), Richard Weisman (Associate Dean, College of Engineering and Applied Science)

Courses Offered:        ASIA 386: Chinese Culture in a Multinational Worksite (Internship)

                                 CHIN 91, 191, 291: Chinese Language and Culture

 

Program Description: Students are exposed to two weeks of the Chinese culture and language followed by a four-week internship.  Throughout this time, students explore the areas surrounding Shanghai, including an overnight trip.

 

Lehigh in Belgium (May 20-June 24, 2008)

Course Description: In its eighteenth year, this program is located close to Brussels, the capital of the European Union.  This is the first year that a Marketing internship is being offered. The marketing practicum combines formal class work with an internship or consulting engagement.

Lehigh in Ireland (June 13-July 25 2008)

Irish Studies include courses in:

Course Description: The program takes place in Galway, a lively city throughout the year.  Filled with medieval streets and extensive shopping, Galway holds an arts festival during the time of the program. The program is designed to allow students to select six credits, three of which include an Irish Studies course of their choice.
