A Pathway to Service
October 4, 2011
At the Community Service Office of Lehigh University, our mission is to further develop our students, faculty and staff as active
citizens who value and contribute to their community needs through meaningful action.
As always, feel free to e-mail us at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions, or
would like to get involved!
Spotlight: Hunger and Homlessness T-Shirts
Over 90% of kids in South Bethlehem are on free & reduced school lunches. With the national poverty rate over 14%, hunger and homelessness are real
issues in not only our nation, but in our community. You have the power to change the social tragedies happening in your backyard.
Upcoming Volunteer opportunities for you
Parents Night Out
The Community Service Office is excited to announce the first PNO of the
semester on October 14th! There will be tons of fun and games, as always!
PNO brings local kids on campus from low income families for a night of
free food, fun, games, and great role models - that's YOU! The event runs
from 5:15pm until around 9:15pm, and it's important that all volunteers
stay for the entire time. The kids are already pumped to come on to campus
and hang out, so you should be, too!
Volunteer at Spooktacular
The Lehigh Community Service Office will be hosting our 10th Annual Spooktacular this fall on Sunday October 23, 2010. This program
brings South Side kids onto campus for a day full of Halloween-themed fun! We are looking for individuals that are willing to volunteer
and help lead small groups of children throughout the activities. If you are interested in helping out and
would like more information about this amazing program please contact Matt Chu at email@example.com.
We have a number of trips to Victory House Men’s Shelter this semester. Trips generally last from 5-7pm and are a fun opportunity to exercise your creative culinary genius. The next trips will take place on 10/6 and 10/12. To sign up now, e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject: Victory House because these trips fill up fast!
South Side Library Fiesta
The South Side Library will be holding its Fiesta Party on October 13th from 6:15-7:45. This is a great opportunity to volunteer and help out with the children. To sign up now e-mail email@example.com with the subject: Library Trip

Helping Hands Across America
This year, Sodexo is continuing our mission of giving back to the
communities we serve by implementing our company-wide Helping Hands Across
America initiative. Lehigh Dining has worked with smaller shelters in
South side Bethlehem in the past, but each year we do at least one main
promotion to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley.
College Mentors Needed!
Tabor Children’s Services is looking for college faculty and staff to volunteer to mentor adolescent foster youth through the college application
process in the Lehigh Valley area. This could include SAT prep, help with essays, and financial aid guidance. These youth often have little or no
family support. The time requirement is a few flexible hours a week and Tabor staff provides support throughout the process.
Northeast Ministry is a social service non-profit organization that has been serving the needs of individuals living in the public housing development
of Northeast Bethlehem for thirty years. Our primary focus is helping the children living in the Marvine Pembroke community reach their potential in
life and break the cycle of dependence. We offer an afterschool program and a seven week summer program for the children in the development.
