Spotlight: Hunger and Homlessness T-Shirts

Over 90% of kids in South Bethlehem are on free & reduced school lunches. With the national poverty rate over 14%, hunger and homelessness are real issues in not only our nation, but in our community. You have the power to change the social tragedies happening in your backyard.

The Community Service Office is selling long sleeve T-shirts to support Hunger and Homelessness Awareness, which will be held from Oct. 17 to Oct. 21. For $10, you can make a difference. Proceeds from the shirt sales will go to organizations that help with hunger and homelessness issues in our community. Remember to wear your shirt on Thursday, October 20!

The event runs from 5:15pm until around 9:15pm, and it's important that all volunteers stay for the entire time. The kids are already pumped to come on to campus and hang out, so you should be, too!

Helping Hands Across America

This year, Sodexo is continuing our mission of giving back to the communities we serve by implementing our company-wide Helping Hands Across America initiative. Lehigh Dining has worked with smaller shelters in South side Bethlehem in the past, but each year we do at least one main promotion to benefit Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley.

This year we will host the event indoors at Lamberton Hall, and we will be collecting donations throughout the day from 2pm-8pm. The event will kick off with music, food, and fun with friends. Around 4pm we will kick off the battle to stop hunger with a Battle of the Bands in which student groups will play throughout the afternoon. The band who brings in the most people to the event (to donate in their honor & vote for them) will win the grand prize. Throughout the day we will have Pepsi representing, and we will be giving away free stuff from the prize wheel. No matter how students participate...non-perishable food donations, cash donations, or mutual support, we want everyone to come support the cause to help fight hunger, all while kicking back and having a good time.

Our goal is to provide a generous donation to our community, to give a local sense of pride in our community and to educate the campus community on the importance of contributing while having fun! We hope everyone will do their part and contribute to the cause.
