Mission Statement

The Student Advocacy and Safety Committee is an entity of the Lehigh Student Senate that is organized with the concerns of the students at heart. This committee plans to protect the rights and well being of the Lehigh student body and to create a safe environment that will enable each student to prosper.

Goals

• To develop key initiatives that promotes the recognition and advancement of student rights and safety
• To field the concerns of the student body and communicate these issues with Legal Authorities and Campus Administrators

Initiatives

• Legal Advisory Board
  • Create a facilitation system whereby students are directed to attorneys with experience in areas of their individual legal needs.
  • Develop solid relationships with local attorneys
  • Construct a database compromised of student’s opinions of various attorneys in Lehigh Valley.
  • Students who require legal advice or representation can openly access peer recommendations on the database and hire an attorney based on these reviews.
• Landlord Forum
  • A public forum in which landlords can communicate with prospective student leasers and advertise their properties.
  • This will create a public line of communication that will link prospective renters with landlords with available properties
• Common Sense Campaign
  • Provide the student body with Information on how to behave in a reasonable manner on- and off-campus.
  • Inform students about how to stay safe
• “Know Your Rights” speaker C.L. Lindsey
  • Host a presentation by Students Rights Advocate, C.L. Lindsey, who will advise students on their legal and civil rights.
  • This will be a very informative and comedic production that is a must see for all students interested in protecting their rights and staying out of legal trouble
