Campus Life Improvement Promotion
Goals
Facilities & Student Spaces
- Facilities & Student Spaces – to help allocate space for student groups and continue improving areas (academic and recreational) for undergraduate students. Goals include implementing an e-mail “laundry alert,” erecting overhangs at campus bus stops, improving gym equipment/satellite locations, and extending library hours.
Chair: Arriel Rubinstein ’12 – ajr312@lehigh.edu
Community Relations
- Community Relations – to improve the relationship between Lehigh University and the Bethlehem community through increased communication and action. Goals include increasing involvement of Lehigh students in the Lehigh Valley community, attending Bethlehem City Council meetings, opening up the campus to area high school students, sponsoring community events with Lehigh students, and addressing issues that involve Southside residents through blockwatches and the South Side Taskforce and the South Bethlehem 2012 group.
Chair: Claude Esposito ’11 – cae211@lehigh.edu
Transportation
- Transportation – to increase ridership of campus and TRACS buses. This group will aim to better communicate current Lehigh transportation options by instituting a “color code” system of routes, redesigning the website, and creating more understandable and accessible information about transportation options. They will also work to institute the Packer Express, a bus that stays on Packer Campus and establish bike racks along buildings on Packer Avenue.
Chair: Hilary Lewis ’11 – hjl211@lehigh.edu
Healthy Living
- Healthy Living – to promote and balance of quality of mind, body, and soul. Goals include finding out which health issues concern students most, categorizing dishes in dining halls according to nutritional value, and publicizing ways undergraduates can stay fit. This committee’s objectives also go along with Goal 5 of the 2008-09 Dean of Students Office’s Strategic Plan, which is to “promote a healthy, safe campus community.”
Chair: Nicole Albano ’10 – naa210@lehigh.edu
Student Safety & Advocacy
- Student Safety & Advocacy – to protect students and promote safety and vigilance both on and off-campus. Goals for this committee are to establish a basic legal advisory outline for students who need to deal with the Bethlehem Police or require attorney representation, to make undergraduates more aware of the precautions they can take to stay safe, to execute a “know your rights” campaign, and to bring in landlords, Bethlehem housing officials, and blockwatch leaders to host an off-campus housing module for students.
Chair: Jeff Boyarsky ’09 – jab209@lehigh.edu
