Welcome - Students for Sustainable Development is a Lehigh University student club with a twofold mission. The first is to educate ourselves and the campus community about the social, economic, and environmental aspects of development both here in the US and around the world. Topics we have focused on in the past include: green architecture, energy conservation and sustainable energy generation, global disparities in water quality and access, organic/local agriculture, environmentally conscious microfinance and microlending, and climate change.

We invite you to learn more about our efforts to bring
clean water to the Honduran community of Pueblo Nuevo.

What we've been up to in the community
As always, we love getting publicity for the work that we do, both in Honduras and here in the States. This time, we were featured in the Eastern Pennsylvania Business Journal for some of the work we did in Honduras. Click the thumbnail for the larger .pdf version.

Our plans for the spring...Will you be there?

Programming
  • We are planning a trip to the United Nations in early April.
  • We are also driving down to the Chesapeake Bay Foundation's LEED Platinum certified headquarters (i.e. it's a green building) on Saturday, March 15.
  • If you are interested in attending either of these, email Mason (mason - at - lehigh.edu).

  • New SSD t-shirt!
  • T-shirts are finally in - they have an image of the logo to the right. If you would like to buy one, bring $10 to a meeting or send Nick an email over at: nek209 -at~ lehigh.edu

  • Outreach
  • On March 17-19 (Mon, Tues, Wedn) we're going to be teaching an environmental science lesson to 8th grade students at Broughal Middle School. Email Kevin (kwm209 -at~ lehigh.edu) if you're interested.

  • Project

And the year is getting colder
Here are some updates for the next couple of weeks...

  • Jacobsburg State Park - On this November 3rd, we'll be heading over to Jacobsburg State Park to have a great time working with the park to help prepare for the winter. We plan on being there at 10 AM (so we'll probably be leaving campus around 9 or 9:30 AM) and our project will be building pools for a habitat to help amphibians metamorph. Whoo frogs! We'll probably be back in the afternoonish, depending on when people need to be back.

    The Leaves They Are A-Changin'
We're steadily approching our fall season, and like any other, that means tons of exciting events and projects that we'll be taking care of.

  • Dorney Park Fundraiser - We're planning on holding a fundraiser at Dorney Park, a great one-day oppurtunity to raise quite a lot of money for the club. There're a huge range of activities volunteers can take part in -- from operating rides to selling concessions to even becoming a mascot. Sounds fun? You better think it does; we're looking for twenty SSD members to help us out this October the 20th. for more information, come to our meetings to see what we're all about!

  • Bakesale this First Fridays - You should all know what this is. Every First Friday of the month, South Bethlehem opens up it's doors and stays open a little later. There will be free wine and crackers, live music, and all the fun you can handle. To capitalize on this effort, Students for Sustainable Development will be holding a bakesale that evening at Clothesline Organics. Come join us this November 2nd!
