can be a difficult stage in anyone's educational career. Here at Centennial, we try to make the middle school experience enjoyable and productive.
Middle School students learn new ways to manage their behaviors. Through "Take Five, Take Control" a school-wide program modeled after the nationally recognized "High Five Program" in Fern Ridge, Oregon. They learn to "take time" when upset and frustrated, and engage in "problem solving" when they experience difficulties in class. Our goal is to teach students to use polite words to resolve conflicts and express frustration.
At Centennial, Middle School students celebrate their successes frequently.
- Each day, every hour of the day, they receive feedback on their performance
- Every week, they participate in an Award Ceremony
where they are recognized for achieving behavioral targets critical for school success:
- attendance
- homework
- cooperation
- overall improvement
The goal of all their hard work and effort is to return to their home schools with better skills to deal with the challenges awaiting them there. Hear for yourself from some of our middle school students:
- "Some of my best accomplishments at Centennial School are being able to work better with staff and peers. I feel great when I don't argue with them."
- "I am better at handling my anger. Last year I was very bad until I learned that it does not get you anywhere to yell and scream."
- "I've been having good days at school and I made friends...friends that like me as a friend."
Feel free to come by and visit our program. But when you do, remember, "Be There, Be Ready," "Be Responsible," and "Be Respectful." |
