Spring 2009 Update

Since our last update Lehigh’s FSAE team has been very busy manufacturing many of the components for the 2009 entry. The chassis has been infused, cut, folded and post cured – many thanks to all those who made its construction possible - Hexcel, Diab, Pro-Set, Dream Telescopes and Lehigh’s Composites Lab!
The uprights, spindles and bearings have been assembled and are ready for installation. The Yamaha WR450 engine has also been readied with the addition of custom fuel injection. There are still plenty of components to be made and we’ll be busy all month. As our competition date comes closer be sure to check back for more updates and eventually results from our race at Michigan International Speedway May 13-16.

Fall 2008

The 2008 Lehigh University FSAE team is now well underway with design of the 2008-2009 car. We’ve had a record number of underclassmen join this team this fall, giving the team 15 new members! Hopefully this increase in numbers will give Lehigh University’s FSAE the momentum it needs in the future.
Currently design is our top priority and all team leads are well underway. The chassis design will be a cut and fold carbon fiber monocoque. However it will be a changing considerably due to new regulations regarding templates introduced this year. We will also be using the Yamaha WR450 engine again for the ‘08-‘09 season. Suspension is currently being modeled with our suspension design simulator.

June 2007 FSAE West

At SAE West, we placed 29 out of 68 teams overall, with an honorable mention for innovation. However a failure again hampered the car from finishing the endurance race during the competition. We would like to thank all of our sponsors for being a part of our team this year, and helping us to attain many achievements. We look forward to the 08 season.

May 2007 FSAE Michigan

We are proud to announce that Lehigh SAE placed 11th for overall car design at SAE Detroit. It was the first time the team made it to design semi-finals in 11 years. We also received 1st place for the Society of Plastics Engineers' Composites Award. Unfortunately, the car did not make it through the endurance event. It was on the verge of finishing the event when the car broke down on lap 20 out of 22. In the end the Lehigh University FSAE team finished 79th out of 106 competing teams.

Plenty has been happening here at Lehigh as we prepare for the 2007 competition circuit. The 2007 FSAE car, aka the X36, is close to being completly designed and manufacturing has already commenced on many of the key area's of the car. Over the next two weeks, our monocoque will be infused, routed, and wet layed giving us a complete chassis before the break. Going with a similar overall design to the X35, the WR-450 will be returning along with full carbon suspension links and some large composites in other areas that we aren't quite ready to talk about yet. None of this would be possible if it weren't for our many sponsers, including the key ones below that have donated at least $1,000 worth of goods (most have given much more!)
