LGBTQA Programs
Spectrum
Started in the Spring of 2003, Spectrum is Lehigh University's student organization dedicated to providing support, social opportunities, educational outreach, and social change for those who identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer or questioning—as well as all those who are allies of the community. Meetings are open to all. Social programs that Spectrum has sponsored include a dance party, movie nights, and trips to New York City and Philly for “gay nights out!” Topics for discussion have included finding love and media issues. Meetings and programs happen on Mondays at 6pm in the Rainbow Room.
For more information about Spectrum, you can contact the President of the organization, Shelly Harris, by e-mail at mih209@lehigh.edu. Check the LGBTQA Services calendar for Spectrum events.
In, Out, In Between
Questioning your sexual orientation or gender identity? Already out? Partially out? Need a safe, confidential place to talk and meet others who are in your shoes? In, Out and In Between is a place where you can talk about your concerns in a confidential area. Here, you can talk about what’s on your mind, meet others who are dealing with coming out, think about where you are out and where you’re not, share your experience with others, and get and give advice! This group will be confidential—your membership will only be known to others in the group. There is still space available. In, Out and In Between is sponsored by the Office of LGBTQA Programs and Outreach and the Counseling Center. For more information, or to sign up, please contact the University Counseling and Psychological Services (UCPS) at (610) 758-3880. You can also visit their website here: Counseling Center.
Safe Zone Project
(Training Program)
In order to create a truly safe space on campus, the Safe Zone Project was developed. Open to all members of the Lehigh University Community, the program consists of one training session, with follow up workshops offered, but not required. Participants receive a manual and an Ally symbol for their office or room to signify their commitment to LGBTQ students. To request information, or to arrange a training session, contact LGBTQA Services at rainbowroom@lehigh.edu.
