COACHE Faculty Survey

During the time period of October 2007 to January 2008, Lehigh University took part in the COACHE (Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education) Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey. All Assistant professors hired at Lehigh prior to 2007 were invited to participate in the COACHE survey.

COACHE is based at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Education. The survey is designed to gather information concerning faculty job satisfaction and is organized around five themes:

• The clarity and reasonableness of the tenure process and criteria
• Nature of the work: satisfaction with work-related duties and support services
• Effectiveness of and satisfaction with a wide variety of policies and practices
• Satisfaction with climate, culture and collegiality at Lehigh
• Overall satisfaction with Lehigh as a workplace

The results of the survey are very detailed and include comparisons with “peer” institutions selected from the list of COACHE survey participants.
