  1. Active Learning Information Literacy: Sharing What Works
    Ruth Perkins & Robert Flatley , Kutztown University.
    Interested librarians are invited to join a discussion of active learning moderated by two instruction librarians. Price of admission: an active learning technique you have used successfully and would like to share with the entire group.
  2. Direct a funDraising crisis to a fun raising opportunity!
    Susan K. Nenstiel, Albright College, will discuss the importance and design of a fundraising plan for the year. Carol Kern, Western Pocono Community Library, and Cindy DeLuca, Barrett Friendly Library, will give practical examples of fundraising special events.
  3. Building Community with Family Place Libraries
    Melanie Fiske , Bethlehem Area Public Library.
    Family Place Libraries' parent/child workshops support parents' role as first teachers, facilitate early intervention, and teach strategies to promote healthy child development and literacy.

  1. Keeping Up – Tips and Techniques for Effective Personal Professional Development
    Steven Bell, Philadelphia University.
    If you're not keeping up, you're falling behind. Steven Bell will share his strategies for staying current with rapid change in librarianship and peripheral fields. Learn about free resources for keeping up, how new technologies like RSS and news aggregation are used, and how to create a personal regimen for keeping yourself and colleagues totally current.
  2. The Reference Interview
    Jean Johnson, Lehigh University.
    The reference interview is an important dimension of user-centered library services. A discussion of how to help staff develop skills and confidence in interviewing library users will include audience participation.
  3. Storytelling
    Lisa Facciponti, Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild.
    A multicultural workshop on performing and storytelling, focusing on presentation techniques and character development to help students build confidence and poise. Ms. Facciponti establishes a relaxed, energy-filled environment, and structures activities that produce personal stories, new versions of familiar folktales, and original tales.

  1. Look Ma! No Brains: Preventing and Detecting Plagiarism
    Barbara Balas and Jennifer Myskowski, Lehigh Carbon Community College.
    A hands on workshop on preventing and detecting plagiarism.
  2.    H. Tips for Writing Strategic, Technology, and Disaster Plans – Alan Bobowski , Eastern Monroe Public Library; Will Jefferson , Learning Technologies Center, Kutztown University; and Korin L. Rosenkrans , North Pocono Public Library. Recognizing the importance of having a plan of action for three areas of primary concern to all libraries, the panel will present useful tips for what to include in a good plan. Samples of plans and personal accounts referring to strategic plans, surviving library disasters, and conducting a technology inventory will be presented .   
  3.   I. When Your Budget Says “No”: Booking YA (and Other) Authors for Your Library Anyway – Zigrida Eberhardt , Parkland Community Library. No bucks? No matter. Ms. Eberhardt discusses using basic sleuthing methods and steely determination to lure authors to your library.

Take Rt. 78/22 (west from Allentown ) to exit 40 (formerly exit 12) and 737 South. Proceed into Kutztown to Main Street (Turkey Hill Mini Mart), turn right at light and continue up hill to campus. Turn north on College Blvd and proceed approximately 3 blocks. Lot I is on the left.

 

From Rt. 222:

Take 222 (south from Allentown ) into Kutztown. Take the Kutztown exit and continue on road/Main Street to campus. Turn right on to College Blvd and proceed about 3 blocks. Lot I is on the left.

***PARKING: Lot I off College Blvd , near Beekey Building —take walkway up hill.
