From tinkers to entrepreneurs

When Pat Clasen ’04 ‘07G and Timothy Marks ’04 ‘06G were undergrads, aquarium hobbyists and tinkerers when they had their first big idea. Today, the three are principals of EcoTech Marine in Bethlehem. Along with their partner Justin Lawyer, they recently won the Ben Franklin Technology Partners of Northeastern Pennsylvania’s award for entrepreneurial achievement. According to the BFTP announcement, EcoTech has grown substantially over the past three years and is on track for more than 12 million in revenue for 2012, almost doubling its 2011 sales. Beginning with three founders, the company now employs 30, plans to add 10 more full-time team members this year, and is seeking new space that quadruples its current area.
