Information & Systems Engineering

Why information & systems engineering?

  • Because you want to spend your days solving complex problems, coming up with innovative solutions and leading their implementation
  • Because you enjoy math and computing and want to apply those skills to making large systems and processes more efficient
  • Because you enjoy working on and leading multidisciplinary teams and might want to advance to senior management positions in consulting, multinational, financial, transportation, logistics, software and telecommunications operations

Information and systems engineers who graduate from Lehigh University go on to work in industrial, service and financial organizations. They become systems engineers and information technology specialists, and, after a few years, may advance to senior management positions in consulting, multinational, financial, transportation, logistics, software and telecommunications operations. They apply their skills in information technology to manufacturing and business environments including electronic commerce, supply chain and enterprise information systems, manufacturing information systems and intelligent manufacturing control.

What sets us apart

Lehigh's Information and Systems Engineering (I&SE) program offers rigorous training in quantitative and computational analysis skills. Students master the complex facets of information-centric systems and learn to integrate information technology creatively in industrial, service and financial organizations.

Lehigh's I&SE program emphasizes technological and mathematical skills for quantitative decision analysis. Its innovative curriculum focuses on information economics, quantitative systems analysis, and information technology and applications. Its capstone design course engages teams of students to work on real-world problems with companies of all sizes.

The I&SE program is offered by Lehigh's top-ranked department of Industrial and Systems Engineering. Professors in the program maintain active research in high-performance computing, networking, optimization, supply chain logistics and operations research. Professors and students have won dozens of prestigious awards from the Institute for Operations Research and Management Science and the Institute of Industrial Engineers. Faculty also serve on the international boards of professional societies and collaborate with researchers in Europe, Asia and Australia.

Companies supporting co-ops, summer internships and research for information and systems engineering students at Lehigh include Accenture, Agere Systems, Air Products & Chemicals, Boeing, Chrysler, Disney, Ernst & Young, Ford, Goldman, Sachs, IBM, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, JPMorgan Chase, Lockheed Martin, Merck, Merrill Lynch, Pfizer, Pratt Whitney, UPS and Vanguard.

An accompanying M.S. degree in Information and Systems Engineering is available for students interested in an advanced degree in their fifth year.
