Digital Media Studio - Video

Green Screen Studio / Editing / Camera Loan / Mac Lab

The Digital Media Studio offers a wide range of support for video production. Students, faculty, and staff can shoot footage, produce audio narration such as voice-overs, and utilize the green screen all in the video studio, or they can borrow portable equipment and record audio/video in the field.  Afterwards they can use our editing tools to complete the work and output it to various formats such as VHS, DVD, etc.  The DMS can also help you prepare materials for pod-or vod-casting, streaming, or downloading.

Studio and Green Screen

One of the most powerful capabilities of the Digital Media Studio is the actual studio: The studio supports both still photo and video production and includes shooting spaces with black, tan, and gray backgrounds as well as a green screen. The green screen can be used to place different backgrounds (still images or motion video) behind individuals or objects recorded in front of the green screen (think TV weather reports).  Voice-over narrations can also be recorded for later use in the video edit process.

Editing

Editing is the process by which video is cut, manipulated, and combined to turn the raw scenes into a completed product.  We have two professional editing systems that are used by our staff and a 15 station Mac lab (see below) for use by students, faculty and staff, in conjunction with class projects or on their own.  In our facilities, digital editing involves loading recorded video onto a computer where it can be edited using one of several editing packages.  The completed project can be recorded to tape, to DVD or further manipulated into a variety of formats including: Flash (FLV), Ipod (M4V), MPEG-4 (MP4), QuickTime (MOV).

Camcorder Loan

The Digital Media Studio offers digital video camcorders for loan.  All borrowers must present a valid Lehigh ID.  These camcorders must be borrowed and returned the same day. Substantial fines will be assessed if the camera returned the same day. Written permission from a professor must be received for an overnight or over the weekend loan.

Mac Lab

The Digital Media Studio houses a (19) station Mac computer lab.  Each computer is connected to our dedicated media server for storage of project files.  Contact Steven Lichak for information on getting a class account on this server.  The computers are loaded with both basic and advanced video editing software.  We strongly recommend that beginners get started using iMovie rather than the more complex Final Cut software.
