Day of Education - University Center 308

The Martin Luther King Organizing Committee highlights faculty involvement in social justice efforts as both citizens and scholars. Two noon-time discussions have been planned for Martin Luther King Celebration Week: On Tuesday, January 22 at 12:10 in UC 308, faculty from Psychology Professors Gordon Moskowitz, Mike Gill, Christopher Burke and Dominic Packer will discuss their work in areas relevant to social justice issues. The research of these professors has included unconscious influences on stereotyping; community, compassion and social explanation; psychological framing of stressful life events; and moral decision-making and dissent.

Participating faculty will comment on their work in the social justice area for a few minutes, but then pose some questions for a more general discussion that would involve other faculty panelists and the audience. Lunch will be available at both sessions. This event is open to the entire Lehigh community and all are welcome.

DC Experiential Bus Trip

The MLK Bus Trip to DC is an interactive experiential program that encourages student learning, reflection, and development with regard to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s. Going along with the theme, "Old Challenges, New Realities," we will take a trip through the past to explore the Civil Rights Movement and the challenges those involved faced. On our journey back to Lehigh, students will be prompted to begin to tie the new information they learned on the trip to their current Lehigh experience, resulting in more civically engaged students.

The cost of the trip is $10 (Gold plus, cash or credit). If you are interested in attending, you can sign up starting Monday January 14th on the 2nd floor of the UC208 or you can register online by visiting http://lumlk2013.eventbrite.com.
