Research

Research in the department is vibrant, relevant, and varied. Despite the variety, certain areas of focus can be identified. In the following lists, to make it easier to find the information you are looking for, the Department’s current research is broken down into categories. You can locate information on the research topics of interest to you from the materials studied, from the techniques used or from the area of application of the research.

All Faculty members work in multiple areas, and the areas are, of course, just convenient ways of classification to facilitate search. The same research topics can be located starting with any one of the three groupings. Each topic links to a list of Faculty members who work in that field and to more detailed descriptions of the work.

Much of the research at Lehigh is interdisciplinary. There are major research centers that cut across the boundaries of the teaching departments. Much of the research in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering is carried out within the structure and with the support of these centers.
