Loewy Chair in Materials Forming and Processing
Director, Institute for Metal Forming
Joint academic appointment with Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics
Wojciech Z. Misiolek, MS and Sc.D., AGH- University of Science and Technology, Krakow, Poland.
After completing his doctoral work in metallurgy, Dr. Misiolek became a junior faculty member at his Alma Mater in 1985. He spent the 1987/1988 academic year as a Kosciuszko Fellow at Lehigh University . For the next nine years, Dr. Misiolek was with the Materials Engineering Department at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in Troy , New York . Dr. Misiolek was appointed various research and teaching positions and he was ultimately promoted to Associate Professor. From 1992 to 1997 he co-directed the RPI Aluminum Processing Program, an international industrial consortium performing pre-competitive interdisciplinary research, which was focused mainly on the aluminum extrusion process.
Dr. Misiolek conducts interdisciplinary research in materials processing and process engineering. His research and teaching interests have focused on deformation, powder and machining processes along with applications for structural and bio-materials. The common theme of these studies is to understand and develop characterization techniques for microstructure evolution in different materials during forming and processing. These scientific challenges are being addressed by the use of various physical and numerical modeling procedures in conjunction with state of the art materials characterization techniques. The Institute for Metal Forming collaborates with several research institutions in North and South America, Europe, Asia and Oceania .
Dr. Misiolek has contributed over 160 publications to the research literature, holds a patent and has been recognized with several awards, from different technical and academic organizations, including ASM Fellow. Usually you can find him working in Whitaker Laboratory; and in his spare time he enjoys photography and outdoors activities such as, skiing, biking, tennis, and kayaking.
