Xuanhong Cheng Research
Professor Cheng has a long-standing interest in developing and applying engineering tools, including micro/nanotechnology, chemical and electrical approaches for biology and medicine, especially those related to whole cells. Her past research has covered multidisciplinary areas, including biomaterials, global health diagnostics, surface science, cell-surface interaction and biological microelectromechanical systems (BioMEMS). Currently, she is focusing her research on developing microdevices for clinical diagnostics used at the point of care, such as for AIDS and tuberculosis. In addition, her lab is working on novel tools for fundamental understanding of cell metabolism and functions at microscopic scale. The other research area she is in exploring is to engineer functional tissues by combining physical, chemical, electrical and mechanical cues into a single platform.
