HISTORY
The Lehigh University Child Care Center (LUCC) was founded in 1990 to serve the faculty, staff and students of Lehigh University, upon a recommendation from the President’s Commission on Minorities and Women. The establishment of an on-site child care center demonstrates the University’s commitment to the health and well being of members of the Lehigh Family.
MISSION
The center exists to encourage and support each child to grow to his/her fullest potential in all areas of development. This creates a positive self-concept and a realistic opportunity for succeeding in life.
AGE GROUPS
Children from six weeks to five years old are eligible to receive care at LUCC. There are three separate classrooms for infants/babies, toddlers and preschoolers. Children are placed in groups according to developmental ability, maturity and chronological age.
LICENSING
LUCC is licensed by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare and the Bethlehem Health Bureau. The Center is accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs, a division of the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
PARENT INVOLVEMENT
The Parent Committee provides support to the Child Care Center Director, staff and families through parent networking opportunities, recognition events, fund raising opportunities and communications tools. The goal of these efforts is to increase and expand communication between the director, staff and parents and to raise overall awareness of the Center among the Lehigh community.
LOCATION
The Center is located on Lehigh University’s Goodman Campus in the graduate student housing complex. The address is 5 Duh Drive, Bethlehem, PA 18015.
HOURS OF OPERATION
The center is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Holidays and center closings are announced in advance.
