Certificate of Law Enforcement Accreditation
Lehigh University Police Chief Edward K. Shupp receives a Certificate of Law Enforcement Accreditation from the PA Chiefs of Police Association on May 19, 2007.
Police Officer of the Year Award - 2008

Officer Gregory Nolf has been awarded the 6th Annual Police Officer of the Year Award for 2008. Officer Nolf was chosen by a committee consisting of Tom Dubreuil, Mary Jo McNulty, and Greg Schulze.
Since Officer Nolf joined our department a little over a year ago, he has proven to be a great asset to the department. He has a strong work ethic, excellent attitude and is always willing to learn. He is able to take on assignments without hesitation. In addition, Officer Nolf has recently been assigned to the Community Police Unit and has been actively involved in the community.
It is for these reasons, along with his outstanding demeanor, why Officer Nolf has been chosen to receive the Officer of the Year award.
Police Officer of the Month Award - July 2009
Officer Mark Schaller was selected as Officer of the Month for July 2009.
Officer Schaller was nominated for his actions following an incident on July 10, 2009. Officer Schaller was dispatched to an illegal dumping complaint along College Drive. After taking the initial report, Officer Schaller followed-up with the witness and was able to identify a suspect and was subsequently arrested for illegal dumping. It was through his efforts and diligence that Officer Schaller was able to make an arrest.
Overall, Oficer. Schaller’s attitude sets an example for others to follow and showed how to take the initiative on an incident to benefit the Lehigh University Police Department.
Police Officer of the Month Award - May 2009
Cpl. James Connell was selected as Officer of the Month for May 2009.
Cpl Connell was nominated for his actions on May 21, 2009, during a follow up on a simple complaint of a purse being found on campus that contained a pipe suspected of being used to smoke marijuana. He was persistent in his follow up which lead him to a residence in Freemansburg where he located additional evidence. Freemansburg police were called, obtained a search warrant, and located a large amount of suspected marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The suspect was subsequently arrested.
During the month of May, Cpl. Connell also worked hard to make possible the department’s inclusion into the PA online accident report system, thus bringing our department into modernization of accident reporting and simplifying the process, saving time and man power.
In addition, Cpl. Connell has been highly active on patrol, conducting numerous traffic stops and citing people for offenses.
Cpl. Connell’s outstanding dedication to the job continues to benefit the Lehigh University Police Department.
Police Officer of the Month Award - April 2009
Cpl. Anthony Gallagher was selected as Officer of the Month for April 2009.
Cpl. Gallagher was selected as Officer of the Month for the time and effort he put into his investigation of the armed robbery which occurred at the Lookout on April 8, 2009. Through the course of his investigation, Cpl. Gallagher apprehended one of the suspects, who was subsequently charged with the crime and committed to Northampton County Prison, and recovered all of the victims’ property.
Cpl. Gallagher’s work ethic and diligence demonstrates his value to the Lehigh University community, and he continues to be a great asset to our department.
Police Officer of the Month Award - March 2009
Officer John Torres was selected as Officer of the Month for March 2009.
On March 17, 2009, Officer Torres responded to a complaint of two males in the Broadhead lot looking in car windows and possibly damaging cars. Upon arrival, Officer Torres apprehended one of the suspects and took him into custody. His quick response time prevented the suspect from damaging property or removing items from vehicles. The suspect was subsequently charged with Criminal Trespass and Underage Drinking.
Officer Torres is always active on patrol, making a safer community for Lehigh faculty staff and students.
Due to Officer Torres’s actions on March 17, he continues to demonstrate his essential role as a member of the Lehigh University Police Department.
Police Officer of the Month Award - January 2009
Officer Mark Schaller was selected as Officer of the Month for January 2009.
On January 2, 2009, Officer Schaller was handling a separate call when he heard officers respond to a burglar alarm at Delta Upsilon. Officer Schaller kept himself in position while handling his call. During the officers’ investigation, Officer Schaller observed the suspect flee out of the rear of Delta Upsilon. He immediately responded, apprehended the suspect in the Delta Upsilon parking lot, and recovered the stolen property.
Officer Schaller has been an excellent role model and has been active on patrol since he started his full time career at Lehigh. Through Officer Schaller’s actions on January 2, 2009, he continues to demonstrate his essential role as a member of the Lehigh University Police Department
Police Officer of the Month Award - December 2008
Cpl. Anthony Gallagher was selected as Officer of the Month for December of 2008.
In the month of December, Cpl. Gallagher was assigned to follow up on a theft of two laptop computers. Through his investigation, he was able to identify the suspect, and locate and recover one of the stolen computers. Cpl. Gallagher completed his investigation in a timely manner by coordinating the cooperation of many different sources and agencies.
Cpl. Gallagher’s investigative work as well as his diligence throughout this incident shows his commitment to the department.
