| The Mayor's South Side Task Force |
| Established in 1988 by Mayor Ken Smith and continued by
Mayor Don Cunningham, Jr., the South Side Task Force is an
unpaid advisory body of thirty members appointed by the Mayor
of Bethlehem in order to promote full and effective
communication between the people of South Bethlehem and the
City's administrative branch. The Task Force acts as a forum
for responding to concerns brought by the mayor as well as for
gathering information about the needs of South Side
neighborhoods. It can frame recommendations to the
administration for improving the quality of life for South
Side residents and, as its name indicates, it can sponsor and
implement constructive projects such as the Annual South Side
Clean-Up and publication of the South Bethlehem Calendar of
Community Events. |
| Task
Force meetings are held monthly and are open to the public.
They are an excellent place to learn more about the whole life
of South Bethlehem, to have questions answered, or to voice
concerns and make suggestions. During 1999 and early 2000, the
Task Force has been meeting on the third Tuesday of each month
at 4:00 p.m.; the venue, however, changes every two months.
So, for current information on place and time of upcoming
meetings, contact Ken Smith, Lehigh University's Director of
Community and Regional Affairs, at (610) 758-5801 or
Task Force Chairman Roger Hudak at (610)
865-4695. |
