In an effort
to educate female students in the area of self-defense, the
Lehigh University Police Department will start teaching the
Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) Program in October 2007. Classes are scheduled for October 16, 18, 23, and 25, from 6 PM to 9 PM. Attendance at all classes is required to receive certification. You may register on-line for this program at the bottom of this webpage.
The RAD System is a program of realistic, self-defense tactics
and techniques for women only. It is a comprehensive course
that begins with awareness, prevention, risk reduction and
avoidance, while progressing on to the basics of hands-on
defense training.
RAD is dedicated to teaching women defensive concepts and
techniques against various types of assault, by utilizing
easy, effective and proven self-defense/martial arts tactics.
RAD is not a martial arts class. This program is designed
for the average woman with no previous experience or background
in physical skills training. The system of realistic defense
will provide a woman with the knowledge to make an educated
decision about resistance.
The class will be taught by L.U.P.D’s certified RAD
Instructors. Students are provided with a workbook/reference
manual, which outlines the entire physical defense program
for reference and continuous personal growth.
Safety and survival in today’s world requires a definite
course of action. The RAD system provides effective options
by teaching women to take an active role in their own self-defense
and psychological well-being.
Lehigh University Police Department offers this course free
to faculty, staff, and students. The basic physical defense
class is 12 hours, divided up into four days, three hours
each day. Class size is limited to 14 female participants.
