Commitment to Diversity

Lehigh’s commitment to fostering sensitivity and consideration to issues of diversity are realized through diversity seminar meetings and ongoing support from a team of diversity consultants.

Project diversity consultants:

• Jamie Galgosci, M.S., Assistant Professor, Deaf Education, Bloomsburg University
• Lourdas Sanchez, Ph.D., School Psychologist, Allentown School District
• Dr. Rosalyn Pitts, School Pscychologist, School District of Philadelphia

These project experiences are designed to facilitate two major competencies:

Becoming effective cross-cultural communicators by

• Respecting individuals from other cultures
• Making continued and sincere attempts to understand the world from others’ viewpoints
• Approaching others with a desire to learn
• Being flexible and open to new experiences
• Tolerating ambiguity
• Having a sense of humor

Becoming effective interventionists by

• Developing a level of comfort and effectiveness in interactions and relationships with
   families from different cultures
• Enabling families from different cultures to feel positive and comfortable about both
   interventions and interventionists
• Accomplishing goals mutually established by families and interventionists
