Volunteer & Paid Launch-IT positions

Undergraduate and Graduate student IT assistants & mentors are needed for the Launch-IT Academic year session beginning Saturday, October 25, 2008 and concluding May 2nd, 2009.

Volunteer and paid positions available. 

Tutors and IT assistants play a significant role in the Launch-IT program, providing the students with one-on-one and group tutoring, assisting as teaching aids in the classroom, and serving as role-models for students.

Summer Schedule

 

Academic Year - 2008-2009

IT Assistants - PAID Positions

Paid positions will participate both as tutors and IT assistants working with one of three Launch-IT teams from 8AM - 4:15PM every one Saturday of the month beginning October 25th

Robotics team (6th & 7th grade students) - Mars Robots & rockets

Fuego Flash team (8th & 9th grade students) - Web-based Juke box

Java team - (10th, 11th, & 12th grade students) - Java ticket machines & random word play game

IT Assistants Job Description

  • Those applicants with technical experience (Flash, ActionScript, Dreamweaver, & Java) may have the opportunity for more hands-on experience in the classroom and possibility of engaging in some additional technical work & projects.
  • Technical experience is not a requirement for the IT assistant paid position.
  • The Launch-IT day consists of various classroom activites. IT assistants are encouraged to bring their strengths and talents to contribute to the classroom experience in their own unique way working closley with Launch-IT teaching teams to develop classroom activities.

 

Volunteers

Launch-IT is in need of volunteers to serve as mentors during the Acacemic Year 2008-2009.

  • Volunteering is ideal for those college students who want to get involved in Launch-IT but cannot commit from 8AM to 4:15PM.
  • Mentors are a key component of the Launch-IT program, working with at-risk students from throughout the Lehigh Valley, serving as role-models, and being able to share their academic success stories encouraging our Launch-IT students to strive to be college-bound.
  • Volunteers work with one of the three Launch-IT teams, assisting with classroom activities, and adding their unique talents and abilities to strengthen the Launch-IT program.
  • Each team has different objectives to accomplish, their own specific IT project, and their own style of teaching in the classroom.
