| Greg Furst '08 describes his IPD team's work on a next generation lacrosse stick for the Henson Company. Greg is an mechanical engineering major and the captain of Lehigh's Men's Lacrosse teams. |
IPD students are typically juniors or seniors majoring in bioengineering, product design, mechanical engineering, supply chain management, materials science engineering, marketing, finance and many other disciplines. However, there is no such thing as a typical IPD student. Some of IPD's most successful students have been those with extremely diverse academic interests such as theatre major/history minor and bioengineering major/international relations minor.
In 2008 there are 145 students enrolled in the IPD capstone course sequence, working on 23 teams, sponsored by 15 well established companies, 1 bio-tech start-up and one undergraduate student start-up.
Through a grant from the Pennsylvania Infrastructure Technology Alliance (PITA), each year 10 IPD students have the opportunity to intern during the summer at the companies with whom they are working on an IPD project.
