Orientation Staff Directory

Lehigh University Photo

Orientation Leaders (OLs) are student role models who serve a vital role in the transition of our first-year students from high school to college as well as helping new transfer students adjust to Lehigh. OLs are dedicated students who possess strong leadership and communication skills, a desire to be part of a team, and pride in Lehigh University. Each Orientation Leader will have a small group of 20-25 first-year students they will work with throughout evoLUtion.

Orientation Coordinators, or OCs, are students who have been OLs for at least a year. They help plan Orientation Leader recruitment and selection, assist in planning spring and August training for the staff and they are available to assist first-year students in the summer by answering questions and giving "student to student" advice.

Where is your favorite place on Lehigh's campus, why?

3rd Floor computer lab in Linderman. I’ve been going there to study since freshman year and I always see the same people there.

Why do you want to be on the Orientation staff?
I’ve had such a great here at Lehigh and I want to be able to instill that enthusiasm in the first-years.

What is something you wish you knew about college before starting Lehigh?
I wish I knew to expose myself to a bigger variety of activities and friend groups freshman year, because everyone has the same mentality of “Let’s be friends!!”

What clubs/organizations are you a part of?
Orientation Staff (of course), S.T.A.R. Academies, Snowboard Club (President), Club Baseball, Rossin Junior Fellows, UP Music
Name: Leah Coutts

Where is your favorite place on Lehigh's campus, why?
For one reason or another, my favorite place on the Lehigh campus is seat 308 in Packard 101.

Why do you want to be on the Orientation staff?

The lifelong friends and lasting memories that I have made from the Orientation program and staff are the reason why my time at Lehigh has been so special. Being on staff is my way of giving back to the organization that has given me so much over the past two years.

What is something you wish you knew about college before starting Lehigh?

Before starting Lehigh, I wish I knew to keep an open mind toward classes out of my comfort level and familiarity range.

What clubs/organizations are you a part of?

American Medical Students Association (AMSA), Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, Lehigh's Prison Project, Student Dental Society, Orientation Staff

Where is your favorite place on Lehigh's campus, why?
It is a tie between the UC front lawn and Christmas Saucon. The UC front lawn because I think it is one of the most beautiful sights and you can see so much going on at Lehigh when there; it always puts a smile on my face walking in that area. Christmas Saucon because it is where I spend the majority of my academic time, and as a math major, we get our own math major lounge, which is extremely convenient!

Why do you want to be on the Orientation staff?
I applied on a whim during my first year here, and was amazed once summer training came at how much I loved it. Getting so much out of it in my two years on staff, I wanted to give the opportunity to others and watch them go through the same experience I did.

What is something you wish you knew about college before starting Lehigh?
Though I knew that I would be living with a hall full of my peers, I guess I couldn't truly wrap my head around the fact that I would be with them all the time. Your social life is active 24/7, so you have to learn to be able to balance this with your work and all the other things you want to still do with your life.

What clubs/organizations are you a part of?
I am part of Greek Life and the Building Supervisors, my work study job that looks over the University Center and Ulrich Student Center. I also play pickup soccer any time I can fit it into my schedule.
Name: Paul Kimball
Major:Undecided
College: Business & Economics
Graduating Year: 2013

Where is your favorite place on Lehigh's campus, why?
If I had to choose just one place, it would have to be the Hawks Nest. I really like all of the old photos on the walls and other pieces of our schools history. It is also a great place to hang out with friends and grab something to eat.

Why do you want to be on the Orientation staff?
I want to be on the Orientation Staff to help as many other people have as great of an experience here at Lehigh as I have. Being involved with orientation allows me to share my perspective and give advice to new students on how to make the most of their time here.

What is something you wish you knew about college before starting Lehigh?
Get involved. The best way to meet new people and have a good time is to find activities and organizations that you really enjoy doing.

What clubs/organizations are you a part of?
Orientation Staff, Club Ski Team, Finance Club, Investment Management Group.
Name: Nadia Krook
Major: Women’s Studies and Biology
College: Arts & Sciences

Where is your favorite place on Lehigh's campus, why?
My favorite place on campus is the UC front lawn. Whether it’s doing homework, relaxing and soaking up the sun, eating a meal, or just hanging out with friends, I think it’s the best place to
be. It’s a beautiful place in the middle of campus where you can watch the seasons change and the school pass by you on any given day.

Why do you want to be on the Orientation staff?
I want to help make a memorable orientation that will benefit both the staff and first-years. I
want to be on the Orientation staff to help build a staff strong in communication, facilitation, leadership, and teamwork skills in order to build the best orientation. Orientation is a great place
to have fun and meet awesome people. I cannot wait!

What is something you wish you knew about college before you starting Lehigh?
Before starting college, I wish I knew to open doors. Lehigh has many opportunities to offer and the best way to learn about them is to explore. I was recently given the advice to “open doors.”
So, if there is something you want to do then explore your options because Lehigh will surely be able to provide you with ways to achieve your aspirations. If you find yourself in front of a “closed door” or something that holds you back, find a way around it or another way to keep going
through by using Lehigh’s resources and by asking help of your peers, mentors, professors, and staff.  I wish I knew this piece of advice starting at Lehigh because through my experience it is
the best way to learn about your university and about the directions you can take your studies
and your life.

What clubs/organizations are you a part of?
I am a part of Engineers without Borders, Society of Women Engineers, Best Buddies, Student Materials Society, and Orientation Leader Staff!
Name: Wono Owoseni
Major:Sociology Anthropology
College: Arts & Sciences
Graduating Year: 2013
Hometown: Linden, NJ

Where is your favorite place on Lehigh's campus, why?
My favorite place on campus would have to be the front Lawn in the spring and fall. It's the ultimate place to hang out with your friends when the weather is just right. And, it's the ideal location to people watch.

Why do you want to be on the Orientation staff?
I want to be on the Orientation Staff because it's not just a staff, it's a family. The orientation staff is always composed of people who make me feel like it's alright to be myself.

What is something you wish you knew about college before you starting Lehigh?
I wish that starting college i knew about the college requirements. I wish i knew that i had to take 8 credits of science and one of them had to have a lab, because I could have gotten them out of the way already.

What clubs/organizations are you a part of?
I am a part of the Black Student Union, Global Union, Mustard and Cheese Drama Society, and the Admissions Ambassadors.
Name:Stephanie Riker
Major: French & Architecture
College: Arts & Sciences

Where is your favorite place on Lehigh's campus, why?
Lucy's Cafe because you can get a great coffee, happen to run into some friends, and have a
cozy place to work.

Why do you want to be on the Orientation staff?
I love Lehigh! Introducing first-years to Lehigh is always an exciting experience. We as the Orientation staff want you to be just as comfortable here as we are!

What is something you wish you knew about college before you starting Lehigh?
Get to know your professors and faculty members. They want to know their students and are
always willing to help. Professors are not only a huge resource for academics, but it is great to have a personal relationship. They are mentors who can act as a support system. What is better than a dinner at a professor's home? Not much when you are away from home!

What clubs/organizations are you a part of?
American Reads/Counts, Greek Chapter, Greek Allies, Global Citizenship and Global Citizenship Student Committee
