Books:
How To Be An Effective Teacher – The First Days of School.  By Harry K. Wong & Rosemary T. Wong. 
This book is a wonderful teacher resource to read before you begin the school year.  It talks about the three characteristics of an effective teacher.  First, a teacher needs to have positive expectations for student successes.  Second, a teacher needs to have extremely good classroom management and third, a teacher needs to know how to design lesson plans to help students reach mastery.  Not only does this resource talk about those three needed characteristics, it tells you how to posses them and use them within your classroom.  Wonderful book and one to read every year in September!

Elementary Classroom Management.  By Carol Simon Weinstein & Andrew J. Mignano, Jr.
This book is a great book to read for classroom management techniques and ideas.  The book talks about the elementary classroom, establishing and maintaining and environment for learning, making the most of classroom time, and working beyond the classroom environment.  This book even has example diagrams of different ways to set up a classroom to optimize effective learning and make it a success. 

What Do You Stand For?  A Kids Guide To Building Character.  By Barbara A. Lewis
This is a neat children’s book to share with the class about standing up for what they believe in and knowing who they are.  This book goes along great with Character Education.  It is a good book and one that talks to the students on their level so they can relate to it and understand the message.

The Big Book of Monthly Ideas.  By The Mailbox Education Center
This book is amazing.  It has ideas month by month for grades 1-3.  It not only give you great ideas, fun visuals, and exciting activities – it also provides examples for bulletin boards and literature links.  This book is one that is always good to have handy when you need a quick and creative idea. 

Computer Software:
Type To Learn
This computer program is used as a tool for students to practice their keyboarding skills.   It is a great software program and it is visually interesting to the students. 

Worksheet Magic
This is a computer software program that helps teachers create worksheets specified to the content.  You type in a list of words on the subject and you choose between fill in the blank, multiple choice, word scramble, crossword puzzles and many others.  The program then creates a worksheet for you based on the data you entered.

This company and website has software that you can customize for special needs children.  This resources was taken out of a book called “How to Manage your Inclusive Classroom.”  This site can also be used for bilingual needs.

This site is a great site to subscribe to teacher publications and magazines.  It has lists and descriptions of all the publications.  I would highly recommend this if you need any teacher reading materials or ideas.
