Captivation, motivation, drive, and thirst for a challenge are all characteristics
embodied in my teaching. My purpose as an English teacher is to facilitate
students knowledge while provoking thought through child centered active
learning. Achieving excellence in the classroom encourages students,
individually, to go above and beyond their dreams, reaching for goals and
ideals the students themselves have set. An active learning environment
is an essential component necessary for learning and academic success within
my classroom. A concept I have created to achieve such a learning
environment is "GO APE."
Technology is a resource that melds well with English and Literature. Utilizing technology within my classroom enables me to facilitate students curiosity through a variety of media. Some media I have used include: computers, video simulations, Internet searches/WebQuests, and word processing tools. These technological advantages benefit students growth through inquiry, active learning, experimentation, experience, and discovery. Throughout my course work at Lehigh, I have stumbled upon many exciting teaching techniques. One such technique, constructivism, allows me to utilize my active teaching style with technology. Constructivism and technology and key components I use to supplement the English content I teach. Teaching as a profession is multifaceted. It includes not only the facilitation of learning; but provides the students with a role model. The greatest responsibility od a teacher, besides imparting knowledge, is the example they present to the student. Great teachers are scholars who endeavor to bestow support, love, morals, values, and essential life knowledge. The purpose of a teacher is to assist the student in their progress towards knowledge construction and self realization. |
