Lesson 2: Fractured Fairy Tales
Objectives:
- The students will be able to create their own fairy tale
from the basic structure of "The Three Little Pigs."
- The students will successfully utilize the concepts of similes,
metaphors, setting, plot, and characters to create this piece.
- Students will delve into their creativity and imagination
to express themselves.
Procedures:
- Review: Similes and metaphors are reviewed. Students also review the concepts
of setting, plot and characters from earlier lessons.
- Discussion on fairy tales. Students at this time will engage in a conversation
pertaining to their favorite fairy tales.
- Brainstorming activity: Various students will come to the board and share
the common elements found in fairy tales. This will provide the necessary
background for the writing activity.
- A handout will be provided to the students: The handout provides structure
for student writing. The handout asks the students to ponder the fairy tale
of the "Three Little Pigs." Four scenarios are provided to help
students develop their own creative writing piece.
- Individual brainstorming: Students brainstorm individually to gather their
thoughts and ideas. Key phrases and sentences are written for further use.
Ideas and elements written on the board from the beginning of class are also
incorporated into this brainstorming.
- Students are asked to conference with others in the class to gain ideas
for the homework assignment.
Homework:
Create your own fractured fairy tale.
- Follow the guidelines of the handout create a piece resembling
the "Three Little Pigs."
- Use similes and metaphors.
- Create a setting for your story with a plot and characters.
- Be creative!!!!!
