sentence and a closing sentence.
- Students will be able to write an effective paragraph
Materials: pencil, paper, overhead projector, construction
paper.
Procedures:
- Inform students that a paragraph is a group of sentences regarding one
subject or topic. This topic can be a person, place, thing or idea.
- Next, remind the students that a topic sentence tells what the entire paragraph
is about.
- The information sentence gives details about the topic sentence.
- The closing sentences sums up the paragraph.
- The students will identify the topic sentence, information sentence, and
closing sentences from the overhead.
- Student Activity: After students are able to identify the three types of
sentences, they will practice writing them. Students will be given the following
topic sentence. They will modify this sentence to create their own original
topic sentence.
Summer is the best time of the year.

the topic.
