Handout:

The overhead provided below was designed to illustrate all of the components of the paragraph. First, students are provided with simply the paragraph. A duplicate is made for the overhead projector. The overhead is color coded to indicate the various components of the paragraph namely: topic sentence, body sentences, and the concluding sentence. Finally, this complete and illustrate paragraph version is shown to the students for review.

The Paragraph:
 
Topic Sentence: Specific Subject/ Feelings or Attitudes. 

Body Sentences: Details and Explanation.

Concluding Sentence: Sums up the Paragraph.

The fair is a great place to go for the weekend (Topic Sentence). It is usually exciting with lost of fun activities. There are many things that you can do at the fair to keep you busy for the entire day. You can relax and enjoy the clown show, watch the acrobats perform, play games and win stuffed animals, or go on a scary ride or two (Body Sentences). Whatever your age, the fair is always a winner (Concluding Sentence).
