Creating this portfolio has been a huge experience for me. Although the technology aspect of creating an electronic portfolio was not difficult for me, I learned a great deal about myself and who I am as a teacher. I knew in
the beginning of the semester that I would be required to have lessons that involved certain aspects in my portfolio. At first I panicked that I would have to think of all of these creative things to do with my class, and I was worried as to where I was going to find the time to do all of this. I even thought I would have to make a few lessons up to meet the criteria in the rubric. To my surprise, I was wrong.
I found while creating my lessons for my classes at Freedom that they nicely fit into the requirements that I needed for the portfolio. I was already planning lessons that I could use. I found that I knew more about what it means to have a meaningful and useful lesson than I had originally thought. It was almost reassuring doing this portfolio knowing that I have learned a great deal these last two years. I had already been putting what I learned to use, and I do not really think I was aware of it until now.
I also think this portfolio has also been useful because I feel this is a great way to assess my students' work. I could eventually use portfolios in my own classrooms. It allows for a variety of assessment, and I think my students would enjoy it a great deal.
Overall, I think this was a great experience for me. I feel I have learned more about myself as a teacher, and I hope that you have too.
