Lesson Plan
Topic: Review Game: Protists, Fungi and Viruses.
Grade Level: 9th Grade.
Time: One class period (40 minutes)
Instructional Objectives: Using the game format,
the teacher will be able to judge content knowledge.
Concepts Addressed: The students can determine
what type of questions will be asked as well as to detrmine their knowledge
of the topic--pointing out strengths as well as weaknesses.
Materials Required: Index cards, lollipops, blackboard,
(student scorekeeper).
Engagement: The game format that will be adopted
is Jeopardy. The teacher will dess up like a game-show host.
Procedure: 1. Students will broken up into two
groups (can either be boys against girls or randomly selected into groups
by teacher--ie. go to group 1, go to group 2).
2. As in Jeopardy, students will be given the answer and respond
in the form of a question.
3. What team goes first will be decided by the flip of a coin.
4. Each student in each group will get a turn (there can be no commiserating
between colleagues).
5. Each correct answer given will be ten points.
6. At the end of the period, whoever has the most point wins--the prize,
which are lollipops.
7. In the event of a tie, a tie breaking question will be asked--who gets
to answer the question first will be determned by the flipping of a coin.
Key discussion Questions: What is a fungus? What
is a virus? What is a protist? Provide examples of each of the aforementioned
organisms. What are chracteristics of a virus?
Closure: Wrap up the game. Enforce review/understanding
of the concepts covered. Ask the students if there are any questions.
Assessment: There is assessment possible immediately,
by judging the response of the students to the questions. Also, see the

Extension Activity: Students might choose to design
their own game which can be ised as a review source (or another type of
study aid as well).
