Family Communication Plan:

The family of the student should be updated, beyond just the parent-teacher night events. Students who are continually absent or can be seen to be struggling academically (or even emotionally, mentally, and physically). It is the responsibility of the teacher to keep the parent informed. By talking withthe parent, one may be able to determine what the problem is, and possibly work with them and the student to come up with an effective strategy in handling the situation. Family contact should be approached carefully and tactfully. In some cases, the teacher must realize that it is the home environment that causes the student to “act out” or display a lack of interest in school.
