Reflection of Portfolio Creation

Creating this portfolio helped me gain an increased appreciation of an important concept in teaching: reflection.  Throughout the creation of this portfolio I had to scrutnize many things about my teaching abilities such as planning, philosophy, management, and the use of technology.  Through this process I realized some things I am very good at, but more importantly, I also realized the areas that need work.  I believe this is the key to improvement, reflecting and trying to become better the next time.  By creating this portfolio I realized that I did some amazing things during the course of my year at Centennial School, but if I were to do it all over again I would change many things from day one.  I am not saying that I did a bad job, I actually feel I did a really good job, but there were many things I could have done that would have made the experience better for the students and myself.
If there is anything I gained from this portfolio it is this: reflection on ones performance is not important to becoming a good teacher, it is absolutely essential!  Whether a person is teaching for a year or thirty years, there is always room for improvement and only through reflection can an educator truly change for the better.  I believe that this philosophy will carry me a long way in the teaching profession and the creation of this protfolio helped me realize this.
