The elementary student should be motivated to listen, read, learn, and respond in the environment provided for by the teacher. The student is greatly responsible for the quality of education obtained. Preparation and receptiveness for the teacher and the student's peers are a must. Students should meet all state and local specified standards as is appropriate for their age, grade level, and ability. Students will obtain proficiency using the curricula provided by the educator throughout the school year. This will be helpful to the students, as they become life long learners.
Processes will be demonstrated by the instructor and replicated or initiated by the students both within and outside the classroom setting. Classroom content will depend on school and state guidelines. Use of manipulatives, experimentation, small group activities, individual work, lecture, Q&A, and many other methods of instruction will be used and provided to the students to ensure effective and meaningful learning occurs. Other methods of instruction will include guest speakers, field trips, and technology resources. Hands on activities will be used as much as possible as in my opinion this is the most effective manner in which to comprehend new data.
Assessment will be done using rubrics, which will be presented to the students at the start of instruction. Alternative assessments will be used such as journals, conferences, and observations. Traditional testing such as written, objective, and short answer will be used but not stressed. Students will have a clear understanding of goals and expectations.
Text and worksheets will be used to supplement learning. These materials will not dominate instruction. Active learning is essential.
Materials provided by the instructor to the students will be dependent upon finances of the school system in which instruction occurs. The attempt will be made to secure the best materials available to provide the best possible education.
Instruction will reflect on
real life situations in order to convey to the students the practicality
of the field studied. Hopefully students will show interest in some discipline
and be able to gain a greater appreciation and knowledge of the world around
themselves. Students will be taught to question the world around them.
