The Lehigh Canal Today

In 1988 the Lehigh Canal was part of an area declared as a National Heritage Corridor by the United States Congress. The Delaware and Lehigh National Heritage Corridor Commission has been charged with helping towns along the corridor develop plans to maintain, restore, and improve the lands, waterways, and buildings. The Lehigh Canal still helps the area grow by providing a means of recreation for residents and visitors. In recent years the canal tow path has been widened to allow for more use.
