Teacher Development Program for Graduate Students

In the 2009-10 academic year, we are offering a total of twelve different sessions on a variety of topics, all run by Lehigh faculty and staff. Graduate Students who attend six of the twelve sessions will receive a Level I Certificate noting their participation, and letters of commendation to their chair and adviser. Those who attend ten of the twelve will receive a book on college teaching, a Level II certificate noting their additional efforts in this area, and a second letter sent to their chair and adviser.

Session 1 - How Teachers Teach: Presentation and Communications

Session 3 - How Students Learn: The Role of Cognition in Instructional Design

Session 2 - "Classroom Management and Organization" - Friday, September 25th, 10:30-noon. Rauch 85- How does an effective teacher manage a classroom, motivate students, and deal with difficult classroom situations? Presenter: Greg Reihman (LTS-Faculty Development/CAS-Philosophy)

Session 3 - "Engaging Students" - Thursday October 8th, 1:30-3:00 Packard 416 - How do effective faculty engage and inspire students? How do they ensure content mastery and promote higher-order thinking? Presenters: Brian Pinaire (CAS-Political Science) and Don Rockwell (RCEAS-Industrial Engineering)

Session 4 –"Crafting a Lecture" Friday October 23rd, 10:30-noon Rauch 85How do faculty prepare a lecture? What are the best ways to deliver a lecture effectively? Session 6 - "Teaching, Learning and Technology Symposium" November 19th in Linderman Library 10:30-1:15
- This symposium will highlight various innovative ways Lehigh faculty are using instructional technology and media in their teaching. Poster presentations by various faculty and staff, plus keynote presentation.
