Glorifying God through Sport September 11, 2006
1. What is your greatest athletic accomplishment? (possibly a personal best or defeating a certain opponent)
2. Why is it so easy to take the glory?
3. Why should we give God the glory?
Psalm 115:1, James 1:17
4. Does slacking off in practice really matter to God?
Colossians 3:23
Other things to keep in mind:
· Transitioning from summer (i.e. chillin’ all the time) into exhausting workouts can be mentally, physically, and even spiritually draining. Remember that when we are weak He is strong. It is important to lean on Him in good times and bad times. You don’t take off your jersey in the middle of a game and walk off the field if things aren’t going well, so don’t take off your “Christian jersey.” “Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” James 1:12
· “Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives' tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. 8For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.” 1 Timothy 4:7-8
“And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God.”
~Colossians 1:10
