Perseverance in
School February 5, 2007
·
We are athletes by nature. Most of our days revolve around sports
and physical activity. However, sometimes we tend to forget one of the biggest
reasons we are here at Lehigh. Academics and school performances are an equal
(if not larger) part of the demands for success placed upon us during our time
here.
·
Accordingly, it is important to realize how our relationship with
(insert annoying class name here) should fit in with God and his love for us. We
will look at ways we can develop this relationship with God and school by
reading verses dealing with endurance, trust, and rewards.
·
Endurance -
Hebrews 12:1-2
- How should Christians run the
“race” in school?
- What can we look to as a
motivation to finish school?
·
Trust -
Proverbs 3:5-6 and James 1:5-6
- What are some obstacles you face
in college that sometimes make it difficult to keep moving forward?
- When things get hard, do you
find yourself trusting God more or less? Why?
·
Rewards -
James 1:12
- What are the material and
spiritual rewards we can gain through finishing school?
- Which ones are most important to
you at this point in your life?
To
Ponder (if there are a few moments):
- How can we honor God in our
schoolwork and in our studies?
- If we have a bad test or a rough
string of assignments, what is the best way to get back on track?
- “God never ceases to speak to
us, but the noise of the world without and the tumult of our passions within
bewilder us and prevent us from listening to him.”
– F. Fénelon …………………Can you hear God?
- “Perseverance builds strength to
face life’s difficulties. Example: A hen lays an egg. When the chick
develops, it begins to peck at the shell in order to come out. If the chick
is helped out of the shell, it will not have enough strength to survive, but
as the chick pecks the inside of that shell, it builds strength until it is
able to break the shell. It is then strong enough to survive.”
