Instructions for Current Students
How to Apply for Institutional Need-based Financial Aid for the 2015 - 2016 Academic Year*

REMINDER: Complete renewal applications are due to our office by April 15th each year. Late applicants risk not being aided.

The LU FileSender is a secure location to submit information electronically to the Office of Financial Aid. A download receipt will be provided to you. Please allow 5-7 business days after submission of materials to check the status in the Campus Portal. *********************************************************************

*The below materials are required if you are applying for institutional need-based aid. If you are applying for federal aid only, you will only need to submit the FAFSA. If you have been selected for verification by the government then you may be required to submit additional documents, such as the Lehigh University Application for Financial Aid, and/or use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool, as requested by our office.

  • Complete the 2015-16 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
    • Lehigh’s code is: 003289
    • The FAFSA application determines eligibility for Federal aid
  • Complete the 2015-16 College Scholarship Service (CSS) Financial Aid PROFILE application.
    • Lehigh’s code is: 2365
    • The CSS Profile Application determines eligibility for institutional need-based financial aid; Students who are applying for Federal aid only do not need to complete the CSS Profile.
  • Complete a Lehigh University Upperclass Financial Aid Application.
  • Submit student's and parents' 2014 Federal Tax Return, along with all W-2s and any accompanying schedules to the Office of Financial Aid. Families who file an extension with the IRS should submit a copy of their extension request & W2 statements to be followed by the completed form when available. If student or parent does not file a tax return and is not required to file a tax return, be sure to indicate that on the Lehigh Upperclass Financial Aid Application to complete this requirement.
  • 2015-16 Noncustodial Parent’s Statement: If your biological parents are not married, and your custodial parent is not remarried, you must submit the Non-custodial Parent's Statement, along with copies of Non-Custodial Parent's 2014 Federal Tax Forms, W-2s, and any accompanying schedules.    These forms follow the same deadline as the custodial parent's forms.
  • 2015-16 Business/Farm Supplement: If either of your parent's (custodial or non-custodial) are self-employed or are owners (part or full) of a corporation and/or partnership, the Business/Farm Supplement must be submitted along with copies of the business tax returns (Schedule C, Corporate Tax Returns and/or Partnership Tax Returns).  These forms must be submitted by the same deadline as the Parent's Tax Forms.

NOTE: Applications are considered incomplete until all required materials are received. Students should check their portal often to view outstanding requests for paperwork and to confirm receipt of all application materials. Please give us five to seven business days from date of submission for the information to be updated.

Missing deadlines could make you ineligible for instiutional need-based aid. Current Undergraduate applicants wishing to be considered for institutional need-based aid should file by April 15th, 2015.

Important Notes:

  • Be sure to carefully review the application checklist noted throughout the current student area of the website to determine if any supplemental applications are required for state grants or scholarships.
  • Applicants who submit applications after the filing deadline are at risk of not being funded instiutional need-based aid.
  • Students receiving federal and/or instituional aid must maintained Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards.
  • Be sure to retain a copy of all financial aid application materials and award letters.
  • The anticipated mailing date for bills from the Bursar’s Office for the 2015 fall term is July 15th with a due date of August 1st.
  • Payment plan information is sent by the Bursar in June, with payments beginning July 1st. We are unable to provide aid information prior to these deadlines. You may estimate similar aid eligibility if there have been no significant changes to your situation (number in college, income increase, etc.)
