Student Experiences

“As everyone knows, business is made up of teams, and working with the ESC gave me an opportunity to work with a team and gave us an opportunity to bring out the best in each other.”

                                                                 - Justin Woodruff

“Working at the ESC, I’ve really been able to put those skills to use by working outside of the school and working with different vendors, so it’s less academic and more real-life experience.”

                                                                 - Colleen Sullivan

“By coming here and having worked now with Lehigh, having worked on my own, the leadership opportunities have far exceeded what I ever thought that they would have been.”

                                                                 - Mike Rinkunas

Opportunities at the Center

The Enterprise Systems Center (ESC) is dedicated to the education of its student participants. At the ESC students are involved with real world projects and situations. Students will frequently work on site with local, regional, and national companies. In the past, company partners have included Kraft Foods, Boeing, Hatfield Meats, PennDOT (Pennsylvania Department of Transportation), and PriceWaterhouseCoopers.  (Click here for a more extensive list of industry partners.)  The ESC provides each student with an opportunity to stretch beyond the traditional internship and become part of a team dedicated to solving real industry problems. The Enterprise Systems Center offers flexible hours and compensates its student associates with credit hours for engineering courses or competitive pay.

“I have learned Supply Chain Management and streamlining of production and manufacturing processes.  I have also improved my presentation, time management, and leadership skills.”

                 - John M. Grubor

“Through the ESC, I got a better grasp on how to work both as part of a team, and as a leader.”

- Brian Schellati

“At the Enterprise Systems Center, I learned not only design for Manufacturing and Complex Finite Element Analysis, but also project management skills through directing other students in a real-life engineering project.”

- Maurice James Gisler

“In the Enterprise Systems Center I have learned how to apply classroom knowledge to real world problems.  Now I have insight into how the business world works.”

- Giles Gomme

“The exposure to a company’s operations has allowed me to apply my theoretical industrial engineering skills to solve real-life problems.”

- Florence Quinonez

Working with Lehigh University

The Enterprise Systems Center is affiliated with the industrial and manufacturing systems engineering department (IMSE) at Lehigh University. Courses, such as the IE Senior Project Class, utilize the ESC facilities and a video teleconferencing system to step beyond the traditional classroom experience and foster truly entrepreneurial thinking.

Students can also come to the center independently to do paid work on projects with private industry as well as state and federal government organizations. Though it is primarily Lehigh students who are involved with the center, students from universities such as Penn State, University of Michigan, University of Virginia, and Bucknell have also participated.

"We believe the experiences with the ESC extend beyond the boundaries of our buildings and programs into the community and throughout time. We are striving to create experiences that will build a foundation for life-long learning and create a feeling of involvement that encourages Alumni to stay connected and share their thinking with our students through interactions and virtual dynamic internet-based images projected in the Collaboratory."
