The Collaboratory
The Enterprise Systems Center Collaboratory is a multi-purpose room used for teaching, leadership development activities and videoconferencing. The Collaboratory is equipped with a V-Tel videoconferencing system, which is used for distance learning courses and client meetings. In addition, students present final presentations over the V-Tel system to gain experience presenting to industry executives in this format. There is a wide format projector screen that can accommodate two images side by side. This allows a class to observe both the local and remote views of a videoconference, or multi-format presentations using slides and video concurrently.
The Second Floor Main Lab
The Leadership Development Laboratory provides a variety of resources to develop leadership skills. The lab supports the:
· Information Systems Engineering Leadership Program- A senior level Leadership Development course
· Leadership components of other courses at all academic levels from freshman engineering through a senior project course
Computers are used primarily as communication tools among members of project teams and with people and organizations outside the university. Much of the lab activity is linked to industry projects. Students gain experience working on real-world projects by interacting with industry leaders and professionals, as well as to develop and practice their leadership skills working on student project teams.
Collaborative Team Rooms
There are two Collaborative Team Rooms within the Leadership Development Laboratory. They are used as meeting areas for students and industry partners to interact using internet-based videoconferencing tools. Student teams can also meet in these rooms to work on projects or prepare and rehearse presentations. One room is equipped with a digital projector so students can view their work in a large format. The other collaborative team room has a large monitor, which facilitates conferences with industry partners.
Industry Partner Multimedia Work Area
One of Enterprise Systems Center’s goals is to discover new ways for collaboration among education, industry and government partners through the use of advanced technology. The Collaboratory has an area that is equipped with digital video editing equipment and software for the capture, editing and production of multimedia materials. Available output formats include: digital video discs (DVD), compact discs (CD), digital (DV) tapes and analog (VHS) tapes.
