 Helpful Web sites

The following are a list of web sites that would be helpful to look for more information that is relevant to the topics that are addressed by Oliver Stone in the movie Talk Radio.  Preceding each section of web sites is a brief description of what you will find in each of them, as well as what they would be instrumental in researching.

These sites will give you links to hate groups that are active in the United States.  They are useful for researching their views in relation to the prejudiced callers on Champlain’s show.  Don't forget that a Ku Klux Klan member killed Alan Berg, the radio talk show host whom the movie is loosely based.

This web site will give you a little background on Alan Berg's life and death.  It will give you insight as to what kind of radio talk show host that he was.  This should be looked at to draw contrasts between Alan Berg and Barry Champlain.

Information on Matthew Shepard would be interesting to look at.  He was murdered solely for being a homosexual, and the news of his tragic death swept the country.  This is just another example of hate crimes still going on in America.

These two sites are devoted to talk radio stations/shows around the country.  They are interesting because they are almost fan clubs of the stations and have news about what is going on the shows.  There is a new phenomenon of "Internet talk radio,” which is almost a contradiction.  Can you really talk over the Internet and have the same effect as hearing a voice over the radio?

This web site gives a good basic overview of what hate crimes are.  There are a couple of links to other sites with more information on education about hate crimes.  This is a great starting place to research the oppression and prejudice that is evident in the callers of Talk Radio.

Actual statistics can be found on this FBI web site.  It's just a point of interest site to look up the incidence of hate- related crimes in each state.  It has the population of the state also, so you can see the proportion and not just the number.

The other site here does not touch on the issue of anti-Semitism, so this site will give simply a little background about it.  It is not a group for anti-Semitism, rather a prevention organization.  Keep in mind that Barry Champlain was condemned more than once for being Jewish.
