Coatings and Corrosion Laboratory

Equipment List:

  • Two Netzsch STA 409 Differential Thermal Analysis/Thermogravimetric Balances
1600°C temperature capacity equipment for conducting high temperature corrosion and differential thermal analysis experiments, capable of cyclic environment / temperature tests in wide range of environments.

  • Dedicated Optical Profilometer
capable of 3-D mapping corrosion pit location relative to macroscopic surface features such as weld ripple, can perform accurate area fraction measurments of the surface that has undergone pitting, as well as measure pit volume and depth

  • Six Lindbergh Horizontal Tube Furnaces
with 1200°C temperature capacity, capable of running long term isothermal and cyclic temperature corrosion tests with various gases; equipped with novel water injection system to accurately control water vapor content inside furnace

  • Electrochemical Flatcell
used for making anodic polarization scans to characterize the aqueous corrosion resistance of various metals

  • Constant Temperature Oil Bath
capable of maintaining temperatures up to 100C for long term aqueous corrosion testing
