Vitae:

Joseph Thomas Murphy was born to Joseph Charles Murphy and Grace Ann Murphy on January 24th, 1982. He was raised in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl where he attended St. Gregory the Great Elementary School and then St. Thomas Aquinas High School. While at St. Thomas, Joseph received First Honors for all eight semesters. He competed in varsity football and during his four years received three varsity letters and two state championships (1997 and 1999). Aside from sports, Joseph was a member of the St. Thomas’s Latin Club and in his senior year participated in the regional and national competition for the Junior Engineering and Technical Society (JETS). Upon graduation from St. Thomas, Joseph attended Lehigh University. During his undergraduate time, Joseph stayed active playing ultimate frisbee, on Lehigh’s club team. He was also a member of various societies including the Student Material Society where he acted as Secretary and also worked as a work studies student in the Materials Science Department for three years. Joseph graduated cum laude in 2004 with a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering. He was awarded the Lehigh Presidential Scholarship and decided to stay on for graduate studies at Lehigh University. He is currently working on a Masters of Science in Materials Science and Engineering. He also continues to keep himself active running, practicing Astanga Yoga, and working as a DJ for Lehigh’s radio station, 91.3 WLVR.
